5:00 pm
>> glenn: live from new york. welcome to the glenn beck program. tonight, i've got a few questions. maybe we can answer. one, is there a blueprint that obama is using to transform america? two, who issue issues right? who is us that gives us our rights? the third one is coming danger. is there a coming danger? what is it, and does anybody else see it? we have a lot to cover tonight. c'mon, let's go! >> glenn: hello, america. is it just me or has anyone noticed that marxism is
5:01 pm
suddenly cool in america? for a while now, people have been wearing the chai t-shirt. i love that, brutal killer on a t-shirt. mao is everyone's famous philosopher and now stallen is someone that oliver stone can empathize with. these were all people that were ruthless, cold blooded killers. mark this down on your calendar if you will. on january 22nd, friday night, a week from this friday, you and your family will learn the true history of che, mao and stalin of who are killers of socialism and communism. what i call the new year, new show. we are going to set the record straight. you need to see it. we have someone working on the program, on this special documentary, and i walked in
5:02 pm
her office the other day and they were editing. and i said how do you feel about this? she said, and this is a quote, "glenn, i have my masters in history and quite frankly --" excuse the language -- "i'm pissed off." i said why? she said, "i never learned any of this. i'd like to know why i never learned any of this." we have video that you most likely have never seen before. i don't think any of this has been played on american television before. i don't know if it's ever been played on television. you will see things you will never ever forget. once you see it, more people will wonder what i'm wondering tonight. why is it that nobody seems to be paying any attention to the similarities that we're seeing now between what hugo chavez is doing in venezuela and what is happening here in america? let me ask you this question? when has marxism and and/or socialism led to democracy? we had move to socialism and
5:03 pm
they helped a lot, right? yeah. no they haven't. the jobless numbers came out on friday. we're still 10%. okay? that is including the expected rush of december hiring for christmas. we still lost jobs. 10% unemployment. 85,000 jobs lost in december. white house spokesperson robert gibbs called it "disappointing" and added "we're in a really tough economic environment." really? i mean, i thought if i may quote your boss the worst was behind us. and actually, it is much tougher than he knows or admits, because the boss is wrong. the thing about the job numbers, they came out the first friday of every month. but they don't show you the whole picture. hmm. thanks for everybody who wants to cover this stuff because i'm here to give you the whole picture. 85,000 jobs lost for the month of december. right?
5:04 pm
but what they don't take into account is the group called "not in the labor force." i don't even know who these people are. they are the people who apparently have given up, or as the bureau of labor statistics, the government organization puts it, they say it's "persons outside the labor force who want a job," including those who have stopped looking because they believe no jobs are available. they're called discouraged workers. how many of those discouraged workers could be out there? first, look at the change from october to november. here it is. 326,000 people have given up. now look from november to december. 843,000 people have given up. and are no longer count i count. we don't count them anymore. they don't count in the government statistic because they're just discouraged workers. who also don't seem to have a
5:05 pm
job. now let me put the numbers in historical perspective here. this next chart comes from henry blogid business insider and shows unemployment as a percentage relative to the peak unemployment month. okay? this is opposed to number of -- basically what it is, it compares apples to apples because there were more people working 50 years ago -- more people working now than 50 years ago because we have grown in population, et cetera, et cetera. first number is let's show the recession percentage wise in 1948. there it is. the percent of job losses in this recession, got it? here is the recession in 1974. remember now bad how bad that ? now you can put great depression in context. this was bad. imagine how this felt. this is the recession in 1980. here is the recession in
5:06 pm
1981. that is bad. now here is the recession that began in 2007. here we are. we haven't hit bottom -- there is no up tick here. notice how even the great depression, up tick, down, up tick, then it's up. look how long this has been going on and we're still trending down. i want to take a look at this at -- i kind of look at it like a wind chill chart. you know how they say it's 30 outside, but it feels like 15. this would be the weather man saying okay, it's 2009, but it feels like 1935. i have a third chart to show and take your breath away but first i want to compare to what hugo chavez is doing compared to what we're doing. if we look at hugo chavez, he has been a busy, busy guy. chavez has decline in poll
5:07 pm
numbers and has election electi win. here is what chavez did over the weekend. he announced a major currency deflation friday to shore up government finances and stimulate the economic growth before the key elections this year. the translation, what he decided to do is print more money to be able to let the government spend more money to help create jobs for the election. look at the other things that chavez has done. in may of 2007, hugo chavez took control of the oil projects, part owned by foreign private companies. so big oil is evil. let's take them over and run them as a government. then the oldest network and the most watch goes off the air after chavez refuses to renew the broadcast license.
5:08 pm
he tells the channel you're doing moral damage and backed a coup against him in 2002. got it? fairness koch t nesness doctrin. he begins a campaign of threat and fine and intimidation against the only remaining opposition tv station global vision. july 31, he announces also the nationalization of banco sana -- it's a bank. the local subsidiary of banco devenezuela. he takes the banks and bails them out. on november 20, they take over four different banks. got it? hugo in the next move is to silence and discredit his critics. in june of 2009, police raid the home of global vision president and ordered the station to pay $2.3 million for giving free airtime to anti-government groups during the 2002 oil strike. hit them with big fines. hit them with big fines that go right to the government.
5:09 pm
got it? that's what he has done. august of this year, chavez began to shut down the radio stations, 34 radio stayings, you know, to silence their dissent as well. now completely unrelated, let me show what has happened in the past year in the united states of america. under barack obama, completely unrelated to any of this. chavez nationalizes big oil and shut down the most watched television number and threatened and defined the other station and shut down 34 radio stations and took over the banks and then decided he would silence the critics. completely unrelated to the past year in america. chavez, first thing he did was grab the big oil. let me show what maxine waters said about big oil. >> this liberal will be all
5:10 pm
about socializing -- would be about -- >> glenn: yeah. taking over? >> basically taking over. >> glenn: basically taking over. the government running all of your companies. that is so weird! completely unrelated, though. chavez then intimidated the shut down or fi fine my media critical of his policies. meanwhile, obama sec diversity czar mark lloyd said this. >> incredible revolution. >> incredible, yes. [ inaudible ] >> glenn: yes. so it was an incredible revolution. that's mark lloyd there. but what did he do? i mean what did he say about the fairness doctrine? >> what we're really saying is the fairness doctrine is
5:11 pm
not enough. [ laughter ] >> glenn: the fairness doctrine times 100. that is weird! because that's what we're doing here. and according to mark lloyd, commercial broadcasts owners who don't comply with the regulations will be forced to pay a fine. the proceeds would go to support local, regional and national public broadcasting, pbs, funded by your tax dollars and soon fines on private broadcast company. lloyd estimates the fine would net between $100 million and $250 million for the corporation of public broadcasting, which in turn according to lloyd and his colleagues would cover controversial and political issues in a fair and balanced matter. oh, you too? this is great! then chavez took over the venezuelan banks. in america, completely unrelated, no pattern here, barack obama and the u.s. government executed a
5:12 pm
bail-out of some of america's largest banks. then the federal government, you know, which now owns 35% of bank of america's pro forma tangible equity said hey, this is sweet! we got this going on. hey, on december 14, obama said this about the banking situation. >> with the help of the american government and the american taxpayer, our banks now have a greater obligation to the goal of a wider recovery, a more stable system and more broadly shared prosperity. >> glenn: shared prosperity. that's like george washington is like -- chavez worked overtime to silence his critics. june 16 of last year, obama mentioned his alleged opposition. >> i have one television station, entirely d devoted to attacking my administration.
5:13 pm
i mean, this is a pretty -- >> glenn: talking about fox. >> that is a pretty big megaphone. >> glenn: yes, it is. and when the white house says fox isn't a news organization, president obama had this to say. >> if media is operating as a talk radio format, that's one thing. if it's operating as a news outlet, that is another. it's not something i'm losing a lot of sleep over. >> glenn: he's not. neither is hugo chavez. now, and again, completely unrelated. big oil, fairness doctrine times 10, bank bail-outs, silencing the critics and the media. what a coincidence! now chavez is devaluing the venezuelan currency so he can stimulate the economy and create job jobs because his pol numbers are in declean and he has elections to win.
5:14 pm
i have been telling you this since george w. bush was in office. this president and the last president devalued our dollar. what happened in venezuela is going to happen here if we don't stop spending money and we don't get off the marxist band wagon here. more importantly, if you are going to control people, if you are really going to control them how do you make them dependent, how do you make it harrowing? what is the best way to control people? sure you can change the radio stations or the tv. you can control the energy sly or make them go to you. if you own a business and need a new loan, go to the government for it. the most effective way to become a slave master and make them come to you is to make them come to you for employment. how could you for you are the president lose the job if the voter understands that if i vote for the competitor who wants to reduce the size of government, that means my job goes away. i'll lose my job. the real power grab is getting them into your employ. let me show you a chart you'll find stunning. this is from the department
5:15 pm
of labor. you ready for this? this is good producing versus government payroll. the goods is blue and the government is in red. here we go. payrolls from 1939. this shows how the public sector, the government sector is steadily growing. and private sector growing as well with fits and starts but it keeps going up. the government line is steadily growing. see how they closed the gap eslowly, but surely. goods producing bounced around and then the peak. then what happened here? goods producing falls off a cliff. toward the end of 2007, there were more government jobs than producing jobs in the country. before that wasn't the case. look at this. it's not lost on me by the way, most of this happened during george w. bush. again, i told you before, george w. bush was a progressive administration as well.
5:16 pm
this has been coming for a very long time. now under obama, what is going to happen? we used to make goods in this country. now we make consumers and we're starting to make government slaves. we buy stuff from other countries. at this rate, we're going to be doing it on the government salaries. government salaries. where does the government get the money to pay the salary? i know! the taxpayer. if the taxpayer is losing its job, the government salary is coming from taxes on taxpayer money. this is weird. it doesn't make sense to me. make sense as if a really hungry man decided i'm going to start eating my own feet. eventually, you're going to run out of food. know what i'm saying? this is a problem. back in a second. >> healthcare is not a right. glenn goes behind the debate with a history lesson you cannot miss. b1+)+)))))
5:17 pm
5:18 pm
5:19 pm
5:20 pm
>> glenn: the phone didn't ring. the phone didn't ring. the white house has a direct line to this program. the phone didn't ring. how many times have i said during the healthcare debate that we can't allow anything to pass? the progressives did what they always do. they move to what is called the overton window to the extreme left, focussing on the government option, abortion funding and then expansion of medicare and medicaid. and then we can't have the abortion and they do what they always do. they just make sure that the structure is put in place, and you argue about things that they had no -- it would be nice for them, but they had no intention. they will get those added to the bill later. senator tom harken spelled this out word for word. watch this. >> what this bill does is we finally take that step.
5:21 pm
as our leader said earlier, we take that step from healthcare as a privilege to healthcare as an inalienable right of every single american citizen. as i said before, this bill is not complete. i've used the analogy of the starter home. and which we can add additions and enhancements as we go into the future. but like every right that we've ever passed for the american people, we revisit it later on to enhance and build on those rights. and we will do that here surely. we will enhance and build on this. but we have made that first most important step. to make it a right rather than a privilege. >> glenn: this is the most shocking and horrifying video. please pass this on to your friends. there it is. let me take this a step at a time. because you need to understand what congress has just said through senator
5:22 pm
harkin. one step at a time. >> we take that step from healthcare as a privilege to healthcare as an inalienable right of every citizen. >> glenn: it's not inalienable right or unalienable right. it's neither. they know it. how do i know progressives know it? fdr tried to sell america on a second bill of rights. listen to this carefully. this is from a speech i've shown you several times but listen to what he says. >> the second bill of rights, under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all. among these are the right to a useful and remunerative job, right of every family to a decent home. the right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health. >> glenn: okay. he was pushing for a change to the substitution that
5:23 pm
included those things. the regulatory czar industried to resurrect that, that failed attempt to give ultimate government control in the book "the second bill of rights: fdr's unfinished revolution and why we need it." again, the progressives know this is unconstitutional. that's why they've been pushing for the second bill of rights since fdr. now they don't think and wait until you see what i have coming up, they don't think you know enough about our country or our constitution or the laws. so they will jam it in. even without a second bill of right. go back to senator harkin again. do you have it? okay. he says in this -- if i'm not mistaken, this is again where he said it's a second bill of rights, i mean it's a right we moved from a privilege to a right. and every time we have a right, what we do is we build on that right.
5:24 pm
it's all about the structure. it's all about putting foundation for a single payer universal healthcare plan in place. then you add the additions when the rest of us aren't paying attentiattention. any of the 60 democrats who are so happy with themselves right now want to talk about the constitution. why? they know they cannot win that discussion. for them, it's about creating non-existent rights. >> like every right we pass for the american people, we revisit it later on to enhance and build on those rights and we will do that here surely. >> glenn: he's absolutely right! but did you notice what he said? with every right we've created and passed on to the people. well, that's not the role of a senator or congressman or a president. that is the role of only one individual. and you find that individual in the declaration of independence. and here it is. we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are
5:25 pm
created equal. that they are endowed by their creator. with inherent and inalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. only the creator can create rights. it's our job as people to protect those rights that have been bestowed upon us. that comes from the declaration of independence. americans know, or used to know that our rights do not come from and cannot be created by congress. that leads to tyranny. why? because if they can create rights, they can surely take them away. the rights come from god, not this or any other congress no matter the make-up. these progressives in both parties are absolutely out of control. and history shows them to be wrong. barack obama noted several years ago that he believed the constitution shortcomings included this. watch. >> the supreme court never ventured into the issues of
5:26 pm
eredistribution of wealth. and more basic issues of political and economic justice and n the society. generally the constitution is a charter of negative liberties, says what the states can't do to you, says what the federal government can't do to you, but it doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf. >> glenn: exactly. exactly. the reason the founders put it that way was for a reason. they did it for a reason. they believed in self-actualization. that government needed to get the hell away from the people and provide them with maximum freedom to succeed or fail on their own merit. it was always about merit. no provide them with every little thing they needed or wanted. it doesn't work. it has been tried and it's failed time and time again. it's what has been doing in england. has the people ever read history? answer, of course they have.
5:27 pm
because they've been carefully feeding you inaccurate history and cutting out all the parts that didn't make sense for them. yet, now, as i mentioned at the beginning of the show, the failed attempts at totalitarian government control throughout history are not viewed as historical facts anymore. or lessons to be learned. they're viewed as iconic artwork. statement to screen print on to a t-shirt, or as we found at the white house, make into a christmas ornament. back in a second.

fathers fought for. that is great and everything what do we do about it, glenn? that's what i hear all the time. i don't know. i'm not a leader of any movement by any stretch of the imagination. although, i have made suggestions and many people have picked those flags up and made it their goal and their own community. but if i may close a short little creature with big -- quote a short little creature with big ears, you must unlearn what you have learned. yes, yes. fear the dark side. don't look at the "r"s and the "d"s. that's what we have been trained to do. this is an election year. i have to tell you real trouble is coming. you have to step outside the left verses right box and look up and down. not this way. both sides let us down a path from independence toward dependence. dependence on washington. it's time to clear a new path. the same old "r"s and "d"s are not going to lead the way this time. who will? my radio show we just changed the theme, the top of the hour. we search everywhere for
5:34 pm
answers, but we must remember we will be the key. we must remember who we are for we will be the key. i'm going to explain that and teachers, because teachers really are going to lead the way, but not the traditional teacher. first, i want you to listen to a letter i just received from a friend of mine this weekend. my friend is a democrat and a liberal. he wrote to me and said, "glenn, it's becoming evident to me that we are on the cusp of the most volatile and most dynamic political moment in our lifetime. the surging forces i think are now clearly discernible. what is not discernible is how they will be manifested for the outcome, itself, remains to be determined. the issue indeed is this nation's future. as you constantly argue, it is in genuine doubt. it is a moment potentially of fantastic renewal, a national restoration. but it is also potentially
5:35 pm
dark and even dangerous, destructive moment that could seal the descent of the last best hope of mankind." he writes to me this weekend and says this is not to be mellow dramatic, but i say it because it's the truth. the last time you had me on your show i stated that i had a message for the political class. the people are coming. and they're coming for you. honestly, it was something i had not prepared. it just erupted from deep inside of me and i believe it to my very core. oh, yes, they're coming. what is in question is how and the way they will come and importantly the purpose in which they come with. these will be paramount in the shaping of the character of their reaction as the corrupt entrenched powers inevitably act to undermine, discredit and crush them. the american people do not need a leader to command them. they need teachers and protectors. here is the man who wrote this letter to me over the weekend, pat cadell, the
5:36 pm
former senior advisor to president carter and a fox news contributor. pat, i was struck by the tone of your letter because i have been saying now for a while that i believe an event is coming and this is why i keep preaching peace, peace, peace, peace, peace, because from al-qaeda to just plain old crazy people and i know that's hard to separate out al-qaeda from crazy people, anybody makes a move now, it could seal the fate of the republic in a very bad and dark way. agree or disagree? >> i think that the danger is, i think we have -- when the country is divided between the people and its leaders, and the frustration of the people as they are not heard, they are not listened to, they're not only ignored but entire political class, they are acting on their own for their own power. somebody may do something, some event will happen, something that will discredit everything. we must guard against that. >> glenn: okay. >> the most important issue
5:37 pm
here is that. >> glenn: you write in there that we don't need a leader, we need teachers. what do you mean by that? >> we need people to teach americans. americans know who they are. they know what they're about. they're not being told enough of where they come from, but what their own history is. but what they know and what they need is to be reminded of who they are and what they have done. they carry in their own blood the history of a people that changed the world. they didn't change it as democrats and republicans, they changed it as americans. they need to be taught, that and thought they do from v the power. paige smith in 1976, the epic two volume history of the american revolution made the case, the american revolution is not about the founding fathers, even the leaders we know. it was a bottom up revolution. it was the people. stan pack which took place in
5:38 pm
1765, he said which when the country rioted from boston to charleston, and they did it over the stamps and the stamp tax, he said the leaders, the american leaders, revolutionary leaders discovered they didn't need to teach the american people about freedom. the american people knew about freedom. they needed to teach about self-government. we need to teach the people how to act in their own interest and then get out of their way. they don't need to be manipulated. >> right. and i think as more and more people -- >> they need the truth. >> glenn: right. this is what i need the politicians in washington, they don't understand that the paradiem is changing if it hasn't already changed. i believe it already has changed. i did a show a couple weeks ago and i asked the audience how many people read or are reading things about the founding fathers, 12 to 18 months ago? i had three or four hands go up. when i said how many people are currently reading something on the founding fathers i believe everybody but maybe three hands went up. people are rediscovering our
5:39 pm
own history. there was a disturbing poll i saw. this comes from the american history survey. ready for this? only 19%, only 19% knew this. who said the following -- "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." was that george washington, barack obama, carl marx or thomas payne? there was a fifth option here. don't know. 19% knew. what is the answer, pat? >> it's karl marx. >> glenn: karl marx. 19% knew. they were split between barack obama and george washington. now you can be split between karl marx and barack obama, because i can hear him say that. but george washington? that shows to me that the
5:40 pm
american people have absolutely no idea who these people were. and what they believed. true or false? >> well, i think it -- no, i don't necessarily agree with that. i think a lot of specifics, people hear things and they're like what did that mean? they were in a survey. but we don't teach history. we don't remind us who we are. and we don't remind the fundamentalists and the political class of the country that who is sovereign. which is the people. not them. >> glenn: help me out -- wait, wait, wait. help me out on this. same survey, you say people misunderstand. try this one on for size. only 50% got this one right. is the bill of rights part of "a," the u.s. constitution; "b," declaration of independence; "c," getsberg address; "d," articles of confederation; or i don't know? the bill of rights. now i don't know about you, but that one is a pretty easy one if you have paid attention at all as to what
5:41 pm
is going on. this is why they can ram through and say we're going to create another right in congress, because people don't know the constitution. agree with that one? >> because we don't teach our history. you know, of course, it's the constitution. we don't teach our history. look, students there was a survey and students take three classes in their whole career on civics and on american history. how are you supposed to know if you're not taught? yes, we're supposed to be concerned about science and math. but we need to understand the free people are only free if they understand who they are and where they come from and their history. we are, we neglect that at our pearl. -- that at our peril. a lot of people in power would have them ignorant and believes it serves their interest. >> glenn: of course they would. that's why the founded wanted an education. they wanted people to be educated. they needed them to be
5:42 pm
educated. what was the first thing wi slaves? it was illegal to teach a slave how to read. >> it was illegal. >> glenn: exactly right. >> capital offense. >> glenn: because once you teach a man how to read and how to learn and set them on the path, he will never be -- >> not know how to thing. >> glenn: exactly right. we'll be back in a second. >> the letter from someone on the left that needs to be read. next. ís
5:43 pm
5:44 pm
5:45 pm
